When Smart began, honors were given to the winners of three categories: First Fish, Most Fish, and Biggest Fish. Over time the tournament has evolved and a scoring system has been established. We now recognize 1st , 2nd , and 3rd Place winners. However, In honor of tradition, the original award categories were maintained and are an integral part of our scoring system today… see Point System.
1st Place: The Golden Stoney Award
2nd Place: The Silver Smart Award
3rd Place: The Bronze Angler Award
Tiebreakers
When there is a tie in points for the 1st , 2nd , or 3rd place position, the tiebreakers will be determined by:
- The angler with the Higher point total of their biggest fish
- The angler with More fish
- Stony Flips a coins and the person with the longer fishing rod calls it in the air.
When there is a tie for one of the traditional awards, the tiebreakers will be determined by:
- First Fish: The Lower point total for their biggest fish
- Most Fish: The Higher point total for their biggest fish
- Biggest Fish: Bigger Fish Girth
Master Baiter
Special and unique honors are given to the individual that possesses the gift of fish hypnosis and wins all three of the traditional categories. When this feat of perfection is accomplished, the angler is given a prize known as the “Master Baiter Award”. This rare achievement is coveted by all whom participate in the tournament. In the history of SMART there has been only one winner.
When this award is won, the man will have his name engraved on the sacred Master Baiter chalice and will receive this cup to keep until it is passed on to the next Great Angler. If in the event a guest wins this award, his name will be engraved on the cup, but the previous owner will retain it’s possession.
